Emily and Steele’s Fun-For-All Camp Wedding at Ohana Family Camp in Fairlee, Vermont
A big thanks to Abby Allaire, my apprentice-turned-second-shooter who used both film and digital to capture the abundant sunshine we were blessed with! Many of these images are hers, including all of the color non-square film photos. Also a special thanks to Chris at Phototec Inc., who developed all the film from Emily and Steele’s Wedding with impressive quick turnaround
Emily and Steele were the first people to book for 2023, and it’s been such a fun journey getting to know these sweet, funny, nerdy souls, who made me feel comfortable within the first five minutes of meeting them. Emily went to the same high school in Maryland as my husband Jeff, and we have a few connections in common, but even without all the similarities, I know their families would have made me feel exactly as welcome and comfortable as they did last weekend.
I spent the first hour photographing the intricate rounds of ‘Camp Olympics’ planned out by Emily and Steele to have an event that catered to each one of their friends’ strengths. Events included: a relay race, a ball balancing competition, a speed cup stacking, a blind taste testing of spices, a plank competition (the winner held out over more than six minutes!), and a crossword competition, among others. It was fun to see everyone in their athletic gear switch into their wedding finery a few hours later for Emily and Steele’s heartfelt ceremony that included readings from close friends, blessings from family, and a breaking of the glass performed excellently by Emily.
Working at Ohana doesn’t generally feel like work, more like I get to be a friend with a camera, and this was no exception over the weekend, with fun from the relay races in the morning to dancing with glow lights while Emily and Steele showed off their awesome dance moves!
